Headline: Connecticut Holds Lead Following Day 1 of 2008 New England Junior Championship
Middletown, RI – Using solid play from all seven players on the team, Connecticut stormed back from a first-round deficit to claim first place following the first of two days of competition at the 2008 New England Junior Invitational, which is being held this week at Wanumetonomy Golf & Country Club in Middletown, Rhode Island.
This annual New England Golf Association (NEGA) event features three rounds of 18-hole stroke play. The first two rounds were held today, while the third and final round will take place on Tuesday in Middletown.
The format for the championship is the best five of seven scores for each of three rounds. All six New England states are being represented by their top seven junior golfers.
Connecticut was led today by Curtis Loop (New Canaan, CT), who posted scores of 2-over par 72 and 1-under par 69 for a two-round total of 1-over par 141. The teams from Massachusetts and Vermont currently trail the leader by five points.
