Senior Division Tee Selection
Since the implementation of two sets of tees for the New England Women's Amateur Championship, one of the most discussed items by players, committee members, and staff regarding the Championship has been the tee set from which to award the Carol Patton Senior Champion trophy. In 2020 & 2021 we have awarded this trophy to the best senior player from the Championship tee set.
Based on feedback from numerous players and previous survey responses, we are considering changing the "official" tee set for senior players to the Tournament tees. This would allow for a separate New England Senior Amateur Championships to be reported to WAGR, would allow for a more appropriate tee set for a majority of competitors, and would hopefully increase the enjoyment for competitors.
The main reason the NEGA has hesitated to make this change is it requires competitive Senior players to decide between competing for the Senior Championship OR the Overall Championship. Because the competitions would now be conducted from different tee sets, a player would be forced to choose between competing for the overall event or the Senior Championship. We want to ensure that the top senior players are competing for the Senior Championship, to continue the tradition of excellence that the Patton trophy has historically carried.
Below, we have a short survey to gain further information in our decision making process.
