Headline: Nine Competitors Punch their New England Senior Amateur Tickets After Advancing at Heritage Village CC (CT)
Southbury, CT – A cool, overcast, and very comfortable day greeted 49 golfers in Southbury, CT at Heritage Village CC. The par-72 golf course played at a yardage of 6,257 yards.
This year marks the first year that qualifying rounds are being held to help determine the Championship Proper field. All qualifiers will join the exempt competitors earned at the New England Senior Amateur Championship, which will be held on September 12-13 at Wethersfield Country Club in Wethersfield, Connecticut.
Mark Vassalotti from Sterling Farms Men’s GC carded the low score of the day, a 1-under par 71, while eight other players rounded out the qualifying field at a 3-over par 75. An additional four competitors shot a 4-over par 76 and were named alternates for the event.
A Connecticut-dominated field played, while a handful of players made their way down from Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
Additional sectional qualifying rounds will be held at Cochecho CC of NH (August 28) and Pawtucket CC of RI (August 29).
