28 Advance From Lake Sunapee Qualifier

New London, New Hampshire – The first day of qualifying was held on Tuesday June 18th at Lake Sunapee Country Club to determine the field for the 2019 New England Amateur Championship, which will be contested on July 23-25 at Quechee Club in Quechee, Vermont.

On this day in New London, a total of 51 competitors representing five of six New England Golf Association states advanced to the Championship Proper following an 18-hole qualifier where the cut line fell at 8-over par 70. Those 28 competitors have earned themselves a spot at next month's Championship, while 4 additional players finished as alternates and will be placed on a priority list per the Alternate Policy, which can be found on the New England Golf Association Policies and Procedures Page.
The 6704-yard layout in New London proved to be a challenge for the field of 51 competitors as only three competitors were able to post an under-par round.
Sam Ohno, a rising junior on the Dartmouth College men’s golf team, led the way on the day, as he finished with a score of 2-under par 68 and carded a total of four birdies on the day, to secure a playing spot in the 90th New England Amateur Championship.
Finishing second overall after posting a score of 1-under par 69 was a two-way tie between Jason Liu (CSGA Club for Schools – CT), and Ryan Anderson (Laconia CC – NH). With an eagle on the 17th hole, Liu was able to play the Lake Sunapee CC’s back nine at a score of 1-under par, while Anderson secured a qualifying spot with 4 birdies on the day. Mark Turner (Bass Rocks GC – MA), Christian Emmerich (Kernwood CC – MA), Derek Wayman (Vesper CC – MA), and John Donahue (Charles River CC – MA) all finished tied for fourth place, with a score of even par 70.
