Headline: 25 Competitors round out the New England Senior Championship field after Qualifying Held at Pawtucket CC (RI)
Pawtucket, RI - As the sun began to set on summer, fall-like weather greeted 76 golfers all vying for 23 spots in the New England Senior Championship. The par-69 Pawtucket CC played at 6,247 yards.
This year marks the first year that qualifying rounds are being held to help determine the Championship Proper field. All qualifiers will join the exempt competitors earned at the New England Senior Amateur Championship, which will be held on September 12-13 at Wethersfield Country Club in Wethersfield, Connecticut.
John McNeill from B.A.G.S. (MA) and Rick Malafronte from Hunter GC (CT) carded the low scores of the day at an even-par 69, while other 7 players rounded out the qualifying field at 5-over par 74. An additional six competitors shot a 6-over par 75 and were named alternates for the event.
A Massachusetts -dominated field played, while a handful of players that teed off were from Rhode Island and Connecticut.
This is the final sectional qualifying round for the New England Senior.
